Statement of Faith
Rooted in Love, Formed by Mystery, Living with Courage and Compassion
At Valor International School, our Statement of Faith reflects the spiritual foundation of our community: to cultivate wisdom, spiritual depth, and global compassion rooted in the Christian tradition. These affirmations guide our community as we seek to love God, serve others, and live truthfully in a complex and beautiful world.
1. We Believe in the Triune God — Mystery and Presence
We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—who is the source, sustainer, and purpose of all that exists.
“For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.” Romans 11:36 (NLT)
God is not distant or detached but deeply present, inviting us into a living union through the Holy Spirit. This is more than just intellectual belief—it’s a supernatural connection where prayer becomes communion, trust grows into surrender, and every moment becomes an encounter with His love and power. In this relationship, the ordinary is made sacred, and we experience God moving in every part of our lives.
“Everything belongs; God uses everything. There are no dead ends. There is no wasted energy. Everything is sacred.” – Richard Rohr
2. We Believe in Jesus Christ — Word Made Flesh
We believe that Jesus Christ is the full revelation of God’s love, fully human and fully divine. Born of the Virgin Mary, He lived among us, proclaiming good news to the poor, freedom to the captive, and love without limit.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be freed, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” Luke 4:18-19 (NLT)
Through His life, death on the cross, and resurrection, Jesus broke the power of sin and fear, opening the way to transformation, reconciliation, and abundant life. Christ now lives among us and within us, leading us into a new way of being—rooted in grace and mercy.
We follow Jesus not just as a figure of history, but as the living guide of our hearts, whose Spirit empowers us to live with courage, creativity, and compassion.
“To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.” – C.S. Lewis
3. We Believe in the Holy Spirit — Dwelling in Us
The Holy Spirit is God’s intimate presence within us, dwelling in us as the breath of life, the unseen guide, and the ever-moving power that draws us into deeper truth, healing, and wholeness. The Spirit invites us into communion with God and with one another, moving in and through our lives in ways both mysterious and transformative.
We listen for the Spirit’s voice through scripture, silence, community, and creation. Through the Spirit, we are empowered to bear fruit that reflects God’s character—living testimonies of His Kingdom unfolding here and now.
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
“The Spirit within us is the secret fire that burns away fear and reveals the love at the heart of all things.” – Thomas Merton
4. We Believe the Scriptures Speak Living Truth
We affirm the Bible as sacred scripture, inspired by the Spirit and revealing God’s story of love and redemption. We read it not as a rulebook but as a living text—meant to be pondered, prayed over, and embodied in our daily lives.
In scripture, we encounter the voices of prophets, poets, disciples, and the living Christ Himself. Its truth is revealed not only through study but through lived obedience, discernment, and acts of love.
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105 (NLT)
“The Bible is a story which, if we let it, will take us into the heart of God.” – Frederick Buechner
5. We Believe in Salvation — By Grace, Through Faith
Salvation is the gift of God’s grace—not something we earn, but something we receive through surrender and trust. It is the loving work of God, restoring broken humanity and reconciling all creation to Himself.
We are invited into a life of continual transformation—turning away from fear and self-centeredness toward love, forgiveness, and the renewal of all things in Christ. Salvation is not merely a moment in time but a daily awakening to God’s indwelling presence and ongoing work within us.
“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)
“Grace is something we can never take for granted because it always comes as a surprise.” – Philip Yancey
6. We Believe in the Church — A Community of Love
The Church is not merely a building or institution, but the global Body of Christ—a diverse, Spirit-led community called to love, serve, and embody God’s dream for the world.
At Valor, we seek to nurture this deep sense of belonging across nations and traditions, recognizing that all people are created in the image of God and are invited into God’s family. We celebrate our differences while standing together in our shared calling to justice, compassion, and peace.
“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 (NLT)
“The Church is the Church only when it exists for others… not dominating, but helping and serving.” – Dietrich Bonhoeffer
7. We Believe in Education as Discipleship
At Valor International School, we believe that education is not merely the transfer of knowledge, but the sacred formation of the whole person—spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and relationally. Education becomes a journey of growing in awareness of the One in whose image we are made, and of walking with courage into the calling and destiny God has placed within each of us.
We seek to cultivate lionhearted learners—students, teachers, and families who are rooted in the unshakable love of God, humble in heart, courageous in doing what is right, and compassionate in action.
Learning, when grounded in reverence and curiosity, becomes a holy act. Every classroom, every question, every discovery is an invitation to encounter the wisdom, creativity, and mystery of God.
“Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.” Proverbs 9:10 (NLT)
“Good teaching cannot be reduced to technique; good teaching comes from the identity and integrity of the teacher.” – Parker Palmer
8. We Believe in Living Faithfully: Justice, Reconciliation, and Hope
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8 (NLT)
Following this call, we embrace a faith rooted not in moral superiority, but in divine love. This faith compels us to challenge injustice, care for the vulnerable, and steward creation.
We affirm the sacred worth of every person and commit to being agents of reconciliation—practicing peace, forgiveness, dialogue, and bridge-building within our community and beyond.
We live with the hope that God is making all things new: that suffering and death do not have the last word, and that a day is coming when God’s love will fill and heal all things. Until then, we wait, work, pray, and teach—with joy, humility, and courage—knowing that every act of learning and love helps build God’s Kingdom here on earth.
“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” – Coretta Scott King
A Final Word
Our Statement of Faith is not a wall to divide, but an invitation—a window—to live more deeply into the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ. Together, we walk this path with reverence for mystery, a heart for the world, and a commitment to community.
“True spirituality is about inclusion, not exclusion. It invites us into a greater reality, not a smaller one.” – Richard Rohr
